Obituary

WORCESTER-William “Bill” F. Foster, Jr., 85, of Worcester passed away peacefully Saturday, August 2nd in his home. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Ruth E. (Maloney) Foster; a son, Stephen G. Foster of Worcester; a daughter, Nancy E. Russell and her husband George of Worcester; a sister, Eileen Desroches and her husband Ernest of Worcester and 8 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, William Foster, two daughters, Ellen Foster and Marie E. Sullivan and a brother, John Foster.

He was born in Worcester, the son of William F. Foster Sr. and Catherine (Daly) Foster. Mr. Foster was a member of St. Stephen’s Church and a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. Bill graduated from St. John’s High School in 1943 and St. Francis University in 1946. He attended graduate school at Boston College and also received a scholarship to Clark University. From 1950 until 1968, Bill was the executive manager of Blue Cross of N. J. Pension and Group Insurance, Great West Life Insurance of N.J. and the National Chamber of Commerce of N.Y., N.J., CT and Washington D. C. In 1968 he managed the Group Department for Phoenix Insurance Company. He managed Worcester and Providence, R.I. for Commerce Clearing House. Mr. Foster was a visiting professor at Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester State College and the University of Massachusetts where he taught Economics. He was also operating as a business broker in the Worcester area.

The funeral is Tuesday, August 5th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, August 4th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
