Ralph E. Olney, Jr., 79, of Central Pike, an operating engineer for Local #57 before retiring, died Friday, August 1, 2008 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Marguerite E. (Sasso) Olney. They had been married for 56 years.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Ralph E. and Madeline (Demars) Olney. He had been a resident of Scituate for 43 years and had previously lived in Johnston.
He was a Little League coach for Johnston and Scituate and was active with Troop #1 Scituate.
Besides his wife he is survived by his three children; Ralph E. Olney, III of Spencerport, NY, Allan D. Olney of Oxford, MA, Lori A. Beaulieu of Pepperell, MA, three sisters Dorothy Pogonowski of Coventry, Barbara Leclerc and Lorraine Dowit both of West Warwick, a brother David Olney of Coventry, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
His funeral will be held Monday at 9 am from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Joseph Church, Main Street, North Scituate. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
