Daphne M. Tucker, 84, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, went to be with her heavenly Father on Monday, July 28, 2008.
Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Wednesday, July 30 at Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald with Rev. Keith Goodlett officiating. Eulogies will be given by Mrs. Tucker’s grandchildren. Interment will follow in Brushy Creek Cemetery, Irwin County. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Tucker was born August 20, 1923 in Melbourne, Australia to the late Henry Robert and Catherine Stubbs Dodds. She met and married her husband in Australia, where he was stationed in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She and her small son came to the United States aboard the SS Lurline in 1947. She lived with her family in Fitzgerald for many years and for the past seven years she had been a resident of The Family Life Enrichment Center in High Shoals. Mrs. Tucker was a former seamstress with H.R. Kaminsky & Sons and former operator of Wee Wisdom Kindergarten, both in Fitzgerald. She was a member and former children’s Sunday school teacher at Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald and a founding member of the War Brides Club.
Mrs. Tucker is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel R. “Danny” & Carol Tucker of Cartersville; daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine T. & Randy Crawford of Gainesville, GA, Frances T. & Jimmy Hancock of Ellijay, GA and Elizabeth T. & Johnny Griffin of Winterville, GA; grandchildren, Danny Tucker of Des Moines, IA, Jim Tucker of Lexington, NC, Kim Knight of Cartersville, GA Megan Griffin of Los Angeles, CA, Harmony Griffin of Raleigh, NC, Josh Griffin of Denver, CO, Darby Crawford of Flowery Branch, GA, Lisa Crawford of Decatur, GA, Jan Pepe of Lawrenceville, GA and Laura Youngblood of Covington, GA; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Philip Dodds of Main Beach, Queensland, Australia; brother-in-law and his wife, Elder & Mrs. Elliotte Tucker of Ocilla, GA. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Stanley “Danny” Tucker and a brother.
