Grace C. (Umbrianna) Arthur, 73, of Rockland died July 26th in the South Shore Hospital, surrounded by her family, from years of failing health. She was the beloved wife of John T. Arthur of Rockland. Grace was born, raised and educated in Rockland, where she lived all her life. Grace loved to play bingo, do crafts and care for her cats. She had numerous jobs throughout her life. She was the daughter of the late John M. and Elsie W. (Anderson) Umbrianna. Grace was the 12th generation descendant of Myles Standish of the Mayflower.
In addition to her husband John, she is survived by her sons Michael Arthur of Texas, John Arthur of Florida, her daughters Laura Hill of Florida, Linda Taylor of Rockland and Lisa Arthur of Whitman, her brother Angelo Umbrianna of Whitman, her sisters Mary Montgomery of Hanover and Janette Cobb, Plymouth; also 8 grandchildren Jennifer Hill, Christopher Taylor, Mallory Smith, Angela Hill, Jeremy Taylor, Brian Arthur, Alyssa Ouellet and Shayna Arthur , 3 great grandchildren lily MacDonald, Violet and Lucas Smith. She was also the sister of the late Nora W. Westberg and grandmother of the late Denise & Joshua Arthur.
Her services will be held Wednesday July 30th at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a 9:00 AM, funeral mass in the Holy Family Church, Rockland. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland, at a later date. Her visitation will be held Tuesday July 29th from 6-9 PM.
