Maurice A. Jacques, 88, of 14 Summer St. died March 19, 2003 in the Mountain Ridge Center Genesis Eldercare Network in Franklin. He was born in Laconia on February 4, 1915, the son of Joseph and Alice (Dickner) Jacques and was a lifelong resident of the city.
A graduate of Sacred Heart High School, he joined the family business, Laconia Awning & Glass Company where he eventually became a part owner. During World War II he served in the Seabees. Following the war, he returned to the family business.
Mr. Jacques later served as a maintenance supervisor for the General Services Administration. In addition, for many years, the Simoneau & Son Funeral Home and Ambulance Service employed him on a part-time basis.
He was a member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks, the VFW Post 1670 of Laconia, the Wilkins-Smith Post #1, American Legion, also of Laconia and as a Seabee veteran, the Lakes Region Island X-4. Maurice was a communicant of Sacred Heart parish.
His long-time companion, Claire Bedard died on December 11, 1991.
Family members include a daughter, Sally Rowe of Gilford; three grandchildren, Ronald Rowe of Meredith, Lynne Rowe of Meredith and Tony Rowe of Laconia; three great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Louis (Natalie) Day of Laconia and three nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Ronald Jacques and three sisters, Gertrude Champagne, Jeannette Truchon and Alicia Jarvis.
Calling hours were in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St. on Sunday from 6 to 8 PM. The Laconia Lodge of Elks held a Session of Sorrow at 7 PM in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave on Monday at 11:30 AM. Rev. Adrien Longchamps, pastor was the celebrant. Spring burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt. Ridge Center Patient Activities Fund, 7 Baldwin St., Franklin NH 03235. Timothy C. Molan and David L. Furber were the funeral directors.
