Harold Charles von Ohsen, Sr., of Summerville, died July 21, 2008 after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 206 Central Avenue, Summerville, SC at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery, 10 Cunnington Street, Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends this evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.
Mr. von Ohsen was born in Charleston, South Carolina on July 2, 1921, son of the late George von Ohsen and Isabelle Picquet von Ohsen. He attended North Charleston High School. After joining the United States Navy, he served during World War II in the Pacific. He was a life-long member of the VFW and elected to several offices. He also was a life-long member of the BPOE Charleston Elk’s Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Marian Junelle Sanford of Summerville; three children, Marie von Ohsen Fitts of Awendaw, SC, Harold von Ohsen, Jr. of Tybee Island, GA and Nancy von Ohsen Bradshaw of Irmo, SC; thirteen grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren
