Mary Jane Edmonds Newman, age 81, died Friday, July 18, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – East in Memphis, TN. She retired from Big Yank in Water Valley, MS. Born March 20, 1927 in Benton, MS, she was the only daughter of Charles King and Betty Irene Goforth Edmonds. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Water Valley, MS.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. The funeral service will be at 3:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Bain, Rev. Hal Clark, and Rev. Keith Stevens. The committal will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley, MS with Jeff Bell, Tim Bell, Lance Newman, Chad Newman, Daulton Newman, Matthew Newman, Jonathan Basler and Brandon Smith serving as pallbearers. Mason Newman, Jeff Basler and Bill Hayles will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Newman is survived by three daughters, Jane Newman Shields (Carl) of Horn Lake, MS, Jeannie Newman of Water Valley, MS, and Bonnie Newman Basler (Randy) of Rural Retreat, VA; two sons, W. R. Newman (Barbara) of Water Valley, MS and Mark Newman (Charlotte) of Eupora, MS; a brother, Lamar Edmonds of Benton, MS; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Newman and five brothers, Charles, David and Arthur Edmonds and Robert and Willie Clayton (Keeter) Parker.
