Whitman-Manuel A. “Manny” Almeida 79 died Monday July 14th after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband for 58 years of Ruth M. (Morgan) Almeida.
Born and raised in Bridgewater he was the son of the late John G. and Alice R. (Sylvia) Almeida.
Manny was a Veteran of WWII having served as a Military Policeman in Germany for the US Army from 1946 to 1949.
He was a resident of Whitman for 58 years and a member of the VFW Post 697, and the American Legion.
He was employed with BayState Gas before his retirement in 1999.
His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved horses and enjoyed them through out his life, as well as fishing, boating and traveling in his RV.
In addition to his loving wife he is survived by his children Deborah J. Almeida of Abington, Anthony D. Almeida of LA, Michael A. Almeida of Whitman, Traci J. Acciavatti of Whitman, and Lisa A. Beery of Whitman, his brother Edward T. Almeida of Whitman, and his sister Loretta Corriea of Plymouth. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and several nieces and nephews.
His services will be held Friday July 18th at 10:30 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts VA National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 PM. Visiting hours will be held Thursday July 17th from 4-8 PM.
