
Joseph A. Puglisi, a lifelong resident of Wakefield, died on Wednesday July 9, 2008 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose following an extended illness. He was 91 years old.
Joe was born in Wakefield on July 12, 1916. He was the son of the late Salvatore and Frances (Ferrara) Puglisi. He grew up in Wakefield where he attended Wakefield Public Schools. He enlisted into the United States Army on May 3, 1945 and served his country during World War 2. He was discharged on July 7, 1946 with the rank of Private First Class. For many years, Joe was a barber, owning his own barber shop in Lynnfield know as The Center Barber Shoppe for over 30 years. After closing his barber shop, Joe drove a school bus for the town of Lynnfield for 10 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of The National Rifleman's Association. He also enjoyed traveling to Europe several times.
Joe is the beloved husband of the late Margaret E. (MacDonald) Puglisi. He is the devoted father of David F. Puglisi of Wakefield and the late Leonard J. Puglisi. He is the loving grandfather of Michelle Puglisi of Wakefield, Master Chief Petty Officer Richard V. Puglisi U.S.N. of California, Theresa M. Barton of California. and great-grandfather of Serena, Travis, Grace and Luke.
Joe's Funeral will be held on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Wakefield/Melrose line, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Avenue, Wakefield, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are on Sunday July 13, 2008 from 2 to 6 p.m. Cremation will take place following the Funeral Mass.
