George D. Noble Jr.
88, formerly of Weston, died on June 29, 2008 at the Mary Ann Morse Nursing Center, Natick, following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Ruth Raftrey Noble. Born in Detroit, Michigan, a son of the late George D. and Agnes (Cowan) Noble, Mr. Noble was a resident of Weston, MA for 35 years having lived previously in East Greenwich, RI and Wellesley, MA. Mr. Noble had been an employee for many years of the former NYNEX and New England Telephone Company, serving as a member of senior management until his retirement in 1984. He was active in many civic, religious and charitable organizations during his lifetime. He was an accomplished amateur silversmith, frustrated piano player, and an enthusiastic golfer. He was a communicant of St. Julia's Roman Catholic Church, Weston and a member of The Brae Burn Country Club, Newton. He was a former member of the Boston Clover Club and the Dunes Club, Narragansett, RI. Mr. Noble, a true member of the "Greatest Generation", attended the University of Detroit and was a US Army combat veteran, having honorably served his country in Europe during World War II. Mr. Noble was the proud and loving father of sixteen children. He leaves eight daughters: Sister Cynthia A. Noble of West Roxbury, MA; Cheryl N. Dewire of Chalfont, PA; Kathryn N. Triplett of Cincinnati, OH; Ruth R. Noble of Newton, MA; Mary N. Klotz of Derry, NH; Ann N. Strapp of Needham, MA; Marilyn N. Gurney of Uxbridge, MA; Elizabeth N. Allen of North Salem, NY and seven sons: George D. Noble, III of Waltham, MA; Mark R. Noble of South Kingstown, RI; Michael C. Noble of East Greenwich, RI; Robert G. Noble of Norfolk, MA; Thomas P. Noble of Newbury Park, CA; Brian C. Noble of Franklin, MA; and Christopher J. Noble of Needham, MA. He was predeceased by his son Patrick H. Noble, a twin brother William C. Noble and his sister Muriel N. Woodbeck. He is also survived by thirty grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews. Funeral from the George F. Doherty and Sons Funeral Home 477 Washington St. (Rt. 16) Wellesley, Thursday at 10AM. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Julia's Church, 374 Boston Post Rd. Weston Center at 11AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8PM. Interment Linwood Cemetery, Weston.
