Obituary

Bertrand W. Tardif, 89, of Manchester died June 29, 2008 at Catholic Medical Center surrounded by all his family.
Born in Manchester on July 6, 1918, he was the son of Louis and Adelia (Allaire) Tardif. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester.
He graduated from West High School in 1935 and then earned a bachelor of education degree from Keene State College in 1939. He taught manual arts at Hudson Junior High School and coached baseball and basketball.
During World War II he was a pilot flying B-24’s for the US Air Force and was shot down over Germany in September 1944. He participated in battles and campaigns in the air offensive in Europe and the Rhineland, Normandy and Northern France. He was awarded the European African Middle East Service Medal, the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
IN HIS LIFE: Mr. Tardif worked as a carpenter for many years. He held many public offices for the City of Manchester including Building Inspector for 17 years, Superintendent of Public Buildings for 5 years and Building Commissioner for 14 years.
He was an avid golfer and a member of Intervale Country Club, also the Sweeney Post, the VFW Post 8214 and the American Legion.
The family includes his beloved wife of 63 years, Therese (Ledoux) Tardif; four daughters, Judith O’Donnell Dupere and her husband Bill of Manchester; Elaine Cormier and her husband Steve of Marco Island, FL, Lisa Ford and her husband Jim of Manchester and Linda Zapora and her husband Tom of Auburn; three sons Norm Tardif and his wife Kate of Naples FL, Paul Tardif and his wife Linda of Bedford; and Rick Tardif and his wife Kim of Londonderry; 17 grand children and 1 great-grandchild.
SERVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday July 2, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 190 Meetinghouse Rd., Bedford. Burial with military honors followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Precious Blood Monastery, 700 Bridge St., Manchester, NH 03104.
