Obituary

Flynn, of Marshfield, June 20th, Robert Clifford 82. Beloved husband of Gladys (Roberts) Flynn. Father of Timothy E. Flynn of Marshfield, James C. Flynn of St. Petersburg, FL, Kathleen Randall of Wareham and Pamela Johnson of Duxbury. Brother of Russell Flynn of Norfolk, Mrs. George (Esther) Harley of FL, Mrs. Andrew (Barbara) Piver of CT and Sally Robsham of Cape Cod and the late Carleton Flynn. He also leaves 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Born in Guilford, CT, he was the son of the late Herbert and Hazel (Dolph) Flynn. During WWII he served in US Navy on board the destroyer escort USS FOGG in the North Atlantic and the Naval training center at Newport, RI. He enlisted in the US Coast Guard and served on board the Cutters HUMBOLDT, EVERGREEN, UNIMAK, YAKUTAT, CASTLE ROCK and ESCANABA manning the North Atlantic International weather stations, participating in many rescue operations saving numerous lives while engaged in that mission. He was the Senior Chief Radioman attached to CG Radio Boston located in Marshfield prior to his retirement from that service in 1967, and since then for many years operated his lobsterboat GLADYS M from the South River, Marshfield. Ham Radio Operator W1NMF – ardent. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Daniel Webster Post #8345, life member, Samoset Chapter Royal Arch, member of the Marshfield Rod and Gun Club, Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Assoc, Cornerstone Masonic Lodge, Mass and South Shore Lobstermen’s Assoc.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, June 30th at 10 o’clock at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Coast Guard Welfare. Arrangements by the Richard Davis Funeral Homes of Plymouth and Manomet.
