Obituary

Al T. Kelly, 57, of Irwin County, died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday, June 25, at the First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, with Rev. Rex Johnson and Rev. John Forbes officiating. Eulogy by Sheriff Bobby McLemore. Interment will follow in Brushy Creek Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald

Mr. Kelly was born December 23, 1950, in Fitzgerald, Georgia to Agnes Freeman Kelly and the late Wallace T. Kelly. He had lived most of his life in Irwin County and was a Captain with the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Department. He was a former member of the Irwin County Sheriff’s Dept., Ocilla Police Dept. and the Tift County Sheriff’s Dept. He was a former Commander of the South Central Drug Task Force. He was a 1970 graduate of Irwin County High School and also a graduate of the ABAC Police Academy. He was a lifetime member of the N.R.A. and a member of Arp Baptist Church in Irwin County. He was a former member of Frank Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County, Westside Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, and Calvary Baptist Church in Tifton.

Mr. Kelly is survived by his Mother: Agnes Freeman Kelly of Irwin County; Companion: Deana Hayes of Irwinville; Wife: Ginger Hutson Kelly of Tifton; Daughter and son-in-law: Nicki and Steve Nichols of Ocilla; two sons: Shawn Kelly of Ocilla and Joshua Kelly of Moultrie; two grandchildren: Luke and Zack Nichols; one brother: Tim Kelly of Irwin County; Step Children: Eric Giles, Benjamin Giles and Katie Robinson all of Tifton; Stephanie Griffin of Fitzgerald, Matthew Green, Jordan Green, both of Irwinville; Step Grandchildren: Jenna Griffin, Hailey and Reid Robinson, and Jonathan and Christopher Giles.
