Obituary

TIMSON, William John “Bill” -- 80, of Pocasset, formerly of Belmont, MA died on Wednesday, June 19, 2008 at Falmouth Hospital surrounded by his family after a long and courageous fight with cancer. He leaves behind his beloved and devoted wife of 50 years, Marie Ross Klein Timson, his five children: Anne Timson and her husband Paul Currier of Sandwich, Mary Griffin and her husband Frank of Mansfield, Christopher Timson and his wife Beth of Walpole, Margie Mikulskis and her husband Alvydas of West Roxbury and Jean DiBartolomeo and her husband Mike of Hanover. Devoted grandfather of eleven, brother of George Tereshkevitch and family. Born in China during his parents journey from the Carpathian Mountain area to Indonesia where he was raised and from which he and his family fled after the Japanese invaded, arriving in Australia from where he departed to the United States to join his father in New York. He learned his first English en route to the United States on a Liberty Ship. In New York he attended the Rhodes School for nine months earning his high school diploma. He was accepted at M.I.T. where he earned his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering and a Doctor of Science degree in Bio-Chemical Engineering. He moved to Buffalo in 1957 working at the Linde Co. where he collaborated on the break-through technology of freezing blood. He returned to the Boston area and began a long career with Polaroid in Research and Development where he authored more than twenty useful and innovative U.S. Patents. In 1990 he retired to Pocasset, Cape Cod and spent many happy times with his family sailing his Beetle Cat, clamming and, as he said, “making sure the tide comes in and goes out twice per day.” He was a devout Catholic attending daily mass for many years and taught C.C.D at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Belmont, MA. He especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren who gave him special joy including, Marie and Charlie DiBartolomeo, Rebecca, Billy and Michael Timson, Benjamin and Emily Griffin and Paul, John, Ross and Laura Mikulskis. Bill loved to cook and took over the kitchen when he retired. He was well known for his famous and delicious (secret recipe) clam chowder. His family and friends will always remember him by his favorite motto, “kindness and goodwill” which he impressed, by words and actions, upon all those whose lives he touched. The family would like to thank Dr. V. Aviles and Dr. D. Canaday for giving him many “wonderful bonus days” and the staff at the I.C.U. and 3rd floor nurses at Falmouth Hospital for their considerate care of him in his final days.
