Joseph M. O’Brien, 87, of Medway, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008. He was the husband of Hazel (Kennedy) O’Brien for the past 37 years.
Born in Boston on November 17, 1920, he was a son of the late Michael and Margaret (Cox) O’Brien. Mr. O’Brien was a resident of Medway for 32 years and grew up in West Roxbury.
Before his retirement, Mr. O’Brien worked for most of his life for the City of Boston in the Cemetery Dept. and earlier in the Park & Recreation Dept.
He was a WWII Navy veteran and was a life member of the Medway V.F.W. Post # 1526.
Mr. O’Brien was an avid gardener and enjoyed politics. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived; by; three daughters, Clare Burdett and her husband, Jayme of Charlton, Margaret Frank and her husband, Steven of Southbridge and Anne Morin and her husband, Christopher of Milford and six grandchildren, Abbey, Megan, Colleen, Logan, Brendan and Kayleigh.
He is also survived by two brothers, James O’Brien of Des Moines, IA and William O’Brien of Arlington and three sisters, Marguerite O’Shea of Jamaica Plain, Sr. Mary Grace O’Brien of Houston, TX and Kathleen Malone of West Roxbury.
He was a brother of the late Marie Olympio and Theresa O’Brien.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Saturday, June 21 at 11 a.m. from the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at noon. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Medway.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 p.m.
