Obituary

ARSLAN Hilmi M. Died on June 9, 2008. Born in Alexandria, Egypt, he most recently resided in Arlington, VA, and previously in Waban, MA with his beloved wife of 58 years, Ruth Howe Arslan. He was a devoted father to his three children, Lee Anne of Arlington, VA, Jahn Hilmi of Deland, FL, and Jehanne and her husband Robert Tsien, of Oakton, VA. He also leaves one grandson, Nathaniel Arslan Solberg of Arlington, VA; two sisters SouSou Sharawi of Tyler, TX, Yildiz Zahran of Alexandria, Egypt and many nieces and nephews. His sister, Ihsan ElLozy of Cairo, Egypt, predeceased him.

Among Mr. Arslan’s many professional accomplishments, some highlights include his work at Sanborn/Hewlett Packard where his team designed and developed the first-generation Electrocardiogram. At Raytheon Corporation, he served as Program Manager for numerous highly-classified innovations in military early warning systems such as the “Cobra Dane” project in the outermost Aleutian Islands and a Navy project in Spain. His proudest and most rewarding accomplishments occurred while managing the “over-the-horizon” detection system Headquartered out of Pordenone, Italy.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday June 14th at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 502 Washington St. Wellesley, MA. at 10:00 am followed by a burial service at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley, MA. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Arlington, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Hilmi Arslan may be sent to The Brain Tumor Society, 124 Watertown Street, Suite 3H, Watertown MA 02472 or Capital Hospice, Attn: Development Office, 6565 Arlington Blvd, Suite 500, Falls Church, VA 22042.
