Jesup- Mr. James A. “Hoss” Tyre Sr., age 73, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Memorial Health in Savannah from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. He was a native of Wayne County living most of his life in Wayne County. He was a member of Jesup Lodge #112 F&AM and a member and past Master of Screven Lodge #368 F&AM, Alee Shrine Temple, and Anderson Drive Baptist Church. He was also a Korean War Veteran serving in the United States Army.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years Mrs. Dean Tyre of Jesup; one daughter: Terri (Gary) Tyre Johnson of Waycross; two sons: James A. (Tammie) Tyre Jr. of Waycross and Joe (Diane) Tyre of Jesup; five grandchildren: Brandy Johnson Murray, Caleb Andrew Tyre, Colbi Brooke Tyre, Mandee Lauren Morris, April Diane Barnhart; two great- grandsons: Andrew Murray and Gavin Barnhart; two brothers: Vernon and Fred Tyre; three sisters: Ruthell Harrison, Shirley Jones and Nettie Hathaway; numerous nieces and nephews and other family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from the James R. Gordon Memorial Chapel of Howard- Jones-Nobles Funeral Home with Reverend John Brown and Dr. Billy Tyre officiating. Interment will follow in the Jesup City Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Active Pallbearers will be Kenneth Tyre, Larry Wimpy, Eddie Tyre, Tony Hathaway, Johnny Tyre and Fred Tyre Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Jesup Masonic Lodge #112 and Screven Masonic Lodge #368.
