Obituary

Marlene (Rutman) Alpert died at the Massachusetts General Hospital on June 9, 2008. She was 57 years old. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Shirley Rutman and the beloved wife of Neil Alpert.

Marlene was born in Chelsea and attended the Chelsea schools, graduating from Chelsea High School Class of 1968. Marlene was a resident of Danvers for the past 3 years and previously from Peabody where she lived for more than 20 years. Marlene was extremely dedicated to her family and especially adored her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to Canada and Georgia to visit her family as well knitting and crocheting. Marlene also enjoyed visiting the North End where she spent many of her childhood days.

Marlene was the devoted mother of David Lew and his wife Rebecca of Georgia, Eric Alpert and his wife Beth, and Rebecca Alpert of Danvers. She was the devoted step mother of Jennifer Alpert of Easton and Stefanie and Bill Spaulding of Wakefield. Marlene was the dear sister of Jacob Burke-Rutman of Hudson, NH and Phyllis Palermo of Stoneham. She was the adoring and loving grandmother of Connor Lew, Maxwell Alpert, Noah Wade, Sophia Alpert, Juliana Spaulding & the late Carter Lew. She was also the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Services at the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave. (Cary Sq.) Chelsea on Wednesday, June 11 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Everett. Cantor David Grossman will officiate. Memorial observance on Wednesday, following interment, at the home of Phyllis Palermo of Stoneham until 8:00PM. On Thursday 10:00AM – 8:00PM and Friday 10:00AM – 4:00PM memorial observance will be at her late residence. Contributions in Marlene’s memory may be made to Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, Burkitt’s Lymphoma Foundation, 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114.
