Obituary

Stephanie L. (Grassi) Thompson, 47, of Marion passed away June 6, 2008 at home, after a brief illness. She was the best friend and beloved wife of Michael G. Thompson.

Born in Wareham, the daughter of Arego A. “Rick” and Betsy C. (Dorr) Grassi, she lived in Marion most of her life.

In her youth, Stephanie was an avid and accomplished gymnast; later, competing and coaching, she led the Tabor Academy Summer Gymnastic Program for over ten years. She coached various high school teams in the area; also known for her track skills, winning several local events and running in the Boston Marathon. Academically, Stephanie, was the recipient of the “Harvard Book” award and class valedictorian of her graduating class at Old Rochester Regional High School. Earning her B.S. undergraduate degree from Boston University; she then excelled in her studies at the former Kinyon Campbell Business School before continuing with a M.S. (Exercise Science) from Bridgewater State College; returning to Boston University as a Doctoral Candidate.

Stephanie has been teaching at Plymouth North High School for twenty years, coaching many athletic programs as well as being involved in many other activities such as the mentoring peer programs.

For the past five years, Stephanie has enjoyed her association with Jack Conway as a part time realtor at the Mattapoisett branch office.

Above all, Stephanie most enjoyed spending time with her husband and their three Afghan Hounds, Jabukka, Isabelle, and Molly camping and going for rides.

She will be dearly missed by many.

Survivors include her husband of over 20 years, having recently renewed their wedding vows; her parents; a brother, Alan A. Grassi, his wife Mary, of Houston, TX and his children, Kelly and Alan D. Grassi; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Stephanie was very close to her in-laws, “Tuddie” and Joe Morse, Donna Lee Tufts and her husband Peter C. Tufts.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Wickenden Chapel, Tabor Academy, Spring Street, Marion, MA, June 24, 2008 at 10:00 in the morning.

Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road (Rt.6), Mattapoisett.
