Obituary

Mr. Francis A. Forcina, beloved husband of Virginia L. (MacDonald) Forcina, died at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford on Saturday evening, June 7, 2008. He was 90 years old.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was a beloved son of the late Salvatore and Philomena (Troiano) Forcina. He was a graduate of Ridge& Latin High School in Cambridge. He entered the Army in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 9, 1941 and was honorably discharged from Ft. Devens on January 25, 1946. While in the Army, Mr. Forcina attained the rank of PFC and was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, the Victory Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon for his dedicated service. Following his military service, Francis married his beloved wife, Virginia, on September 4, 1948, at St. Benedict Church in Somerville. The couple enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage. Mr. Forcina was an avid sports fan, especially of the Patriot’s, Red Sox and Celtics. He was a long time member of the VFW in Somerville as well as a member of the Carmen’s Union # 589 and he loved to dance with his beloved wife, Virginia.
Besides his wife, he will be very sorely missed by two daughters and one son-in-law; Cheryl Standley of Hamilton and Carla and her husband Maury Carroll of Medford, four cherished grandchildren; Joanna, Lesley, Jill and Maury and one sister; Natalie DeMartinis of Somerville.
He was also the brother of the late Lou Forcina, Marie Maniglia, Yolanda Forcina and Edith DeMartinis and father-in-law of the late Frank “Dan” Standley.
His funeral was from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Friday at 8:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church 118 High Street, Medford at 9:30 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visiting hours were Thursday from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
