Obituary

LOWELL - Dorothy “Dot” (Coleman) Novak, 95, beloved wife of the late Theodore “Ted” Novak, died on June 1, 2008. Born in Middletown, CT, June 12, 1912, she was a daughter of the late William and Anastacia (Sullivan) Coleman. The family owned and operated the Mapleshade Dairy on Coleman Rd., Middletown CT.

Dorothy was educated in CT schools having graduated from Middletown High School class of 1930 and Higginson Business College. She worked in the office of the former Freund’s Jewelry Store on Main Street and in the Assistant Treasurer’s Office at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT until her marriage and move to Lowell, MA.

Dorothy was an active member of the Pawtucketville PTA, St. Rita’s Parish and the Women’s Club Sodality, as well as the League of Catholic Women, Association of the Miraculous Medal and Saint Jude’s League. She enjoyed poetry, books, and playing Scrabble, as well as watching the Lowell City Council Meetings on TV.

Surviving her are a daughter Mrs. Robert Swistak (Carol) and son-in-law Robert R. Swistak of Burke, VA, three grandsons Robert A. Swistak and wife Natalie of Suwanee, GA, Jason Swistak and wife Suzanne of Centreville, VA, and William Swistak of Arlington, VA, three grandchildren, Ryan Swistak of Atlanta, GA, and Lindsey and Kiefer Swistak of Centreville, VA, one sister, Mrs. John Bradley of Cromwell, CT, one brother Timothy Coleman of Middletown, CT, and many nieces and nephews in CT, MA, and Florida.
She also survived by several very dear and caring friends and neighbors who were always there for her.

Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Friday morning from 9 until 11 AM. Her Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM in the funeral home. Those who wish may make donations in her name to the VNA Hospice of Greater Lowell, PO Box 1965, Lowell, MA, 01853-1965. Interment in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Pelham, NH.
