Obituary

WORCESTER__Isabel A. Kondrot, 100, of 10 Mary Scano Drive, died Wednesday May 28, in Christopher House of Worcester.

She leaves two nephews, Raymond H. Kelley, Jr., of Shrewsbury and Thomas Friend of Leicester; several cousins including goddaughters, Patricia Kenneway and Mary Ann Kenneway. She was predeceased by a sister, Ann M. Friend who died in 1995. She was born in Minersville, PA., a daughter of Jacob J. and Rosalie (Shefler) Kondrat and lived in Worcester most of her life.

Miss Kondrot was an engineer and office person for over thirty years at U.S. Steel Co, formerly American Steel and Wire Co., retiring in 1973. She received many awards during her career for developing cost effective manufacturing processes. Isabel graduated from Commerce High School as Valedictorian of her class. She was a founding and longtime member of Our Lady of Vilna Church. She and her sister Ann were responsible for the funding of the main altar at the church which is still used today for Masses. She was active in the church including many years with the Bishop’s Fund. She also enjoyed creating crossword puzzles many of which were published.

The funeral will be held on Saturday May 31, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, with a Mass at 9:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Vilna Church, 151 Sterling Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday May 31 from 8:00 to 8:45 am in the funeral home.
