Bernard V. Yurt, 78, of Medway, died, Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the Metro West Medical Center in Natick. He was the husband of Janet (Burgess) Yurt for the past 19 years and the late Audrey S. (Warren) Yurt who died in 1985.
Born in Boston on January 28, 1930, he was the son of the late Francis X. and Emeline J. (Archambault) Yurt. He was a resident of Medway since 1989 and formerly resided in Franklin and Brighton. Mr. Yurt was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving from 1948-1953 and attained the rank of staff-sergeant.
He worked for his father at the Supreme Radio Co. in Brighton as a television technician for 15 years and then at the Foxboro Co. in Foxboro for 25 years as supervisor of digital production. He retired from Sears in 1998 where he worked as an electronic technician.
Mr. Yurt was a member of the Excelsior Lodge AF & AM of Franklin and served as Master of the Lodge from 1979 â 1981. He was also a member of the Miller Royal Arch Chapter and served as High Priest from 1983 â 1985.
Mr. Yurt played the trumpet most of his life, playing in the pit orchestra for many performing groups including the Norton Singers and the Chaminade Opera Group. He played with the Tommy Stevens Orchestra playing in and around the Boston area. He also played with and conducted the Larry Queen Orchestra and played with the Bob Bachelor Orchestra playing the New England circuit including the Totem Pole in Newton. In later years, he played with the Olde Kids on the Block, the Danny Marcus Band, the Al Cappozi Orchestra and the Westwood Swing Band as well as many other swing bands in the area.
Having an interest in English sports cars, Mr. Yurt founded the New England XK Assoc. in 1968, now renamed Jaguar Assoc. of New England. He belonged to many car clubs including the New England MG âTâ Register.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Susan Kilduff of Franklin, Laurianne Storme and her husband, Robert of Blackstone, Cynthia Hart and her husband, Richard of Woonsocket, RI, Steven Yurt of Guilford, CT and Kristen Maher and her husband, Ronald of Blackstone and his grandchildren, Jason Kilduff and his wife, Kimberly of Avon, CT, Adam Kilduff of Franklin, Jeffrey Storme and his wife, Heather of Worcester, Jessica Storme of Blackstone, Brian and Kaitlyn Hart, both of Woonsocket and Ryan Maher of Blackstone.
He is also survived by, his great grandchildren, Madison, Reagan and Jackson Kilduff and Griffyn Storme, his step-children, James Watson of Mendon, Robert Watson of Medway, and Jeffrey Watson and Heather Holst, both of Wrentham and his brother, Francis Yurt and his wife, Rosemarie of Chelmsford.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Thursday, May 29 at 11 a.m. at the Community Church of West Medway, 193 Main St. in Medway. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 -7 p.m. in the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway.
