Marguerite Bishop Young, 87, of Ocilla, died Thursday evening, May 22, 2008, at the Osceola Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Saturday, May 24, at the Ocilla United Methodist Church with Dr. Keithen Tucker and Rev. Scott Brenton officiating. Interment will follow in the Ocilla Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Young was born December 5, 1920 in Ben Hill County to the late John Dave Bishop, Sr., and the late Effie Middlebrooks Bishop. She lived in Irwin County and Ben Hill County most of her life and was a former resident of Savannah. Mrs. Young was a 1937 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. She was a homemaker and a former Telegraph Operator for Western Union. Mrs. Young was an active member and former Sunday school teacher of the Ocilla United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Young is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, C. Larry & Sam Young of Ocilla; grandchildren, Todd Young of Ocilla and Ryan (Mandy) Young of Americus; great-grandchildren, Madison Young, Darbee Young and Tate Young; sisters, Jube Tucker of Albany and Esther Williams of Fitzgerald; brothers and sisters-in-law, Quentin & Mary Bishop and Howard & Joyce Bishop all of Fitzgerald, as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Albert Young, son, David Young and brothers, J.D. Bishop, T.N. “Dosh” Bishop and Dennis Bishop.
