Obituary

Evangelos Tzioumis, age 100, passed away Tuesday May 20th at the Willow Manor Nursing Home surrounded by his family.

He was born September 16, 1907 in Kerasea Arkadias, Greece a son of the late Vasilios and Christine(Kliros) Tzioumis.

He immigrated to Lowell in 1967 with his family where until 1985 he was the dedicated sexton of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Mr. Tzioumis served in the infantry of the Greek Army from 1927 until 1929. In 1940, he returned to serve his country for two more years during World War II.

He was employed at the former Speare House Restaurant and the Olympia Restaurant.

Mr. Tzioumis was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell.

He is survived by his devoted children, Vasilios Tzioumis of Lowell, Christine Goulas and her husband Christos of Tewksbury, Niki Kanavas and her husband Demetrios of Lowell; six grandchildren, Evangelos Tzioumis, Nicholas Goulas, Evan Goulas, Voula(Kanavas) Danas and her husband Peter, Sotiria Kanavas, Charlie Kanavas; two great grandchildren, Athanasios Danas, Demetra Danas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Demetra Bertsos and Lee Thomas, and a brother in law, Sotirios Thomas.

Friends will be received at the M.R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St. Lowell on Thursday from 4 to 8pm. His funeral will take place from the Funeral Home on Friday at 9am with services at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell at 10a.m. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Hellenic American Academy Endowment Trust 41 Broadway St. Lowell, Ma. 01854.
