Dallas Newsome, 89, of Tifton (Formerly of Irwin County), died Monday, May 19, 2008, at Palemon Gaskins Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 4 P.M. Tuesday, May 20 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla with Rev. Terrell Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Mystic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-4 Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home.
Mrs. Newsome was born December 12, 1918 in Irwin County to the late Dave and Nellie Rowell Hogan. She was a homemaker and lived in Tifton for the past twenty-eight years from Irwin County. Ms. Newsome graduated from Mystic High School in 1934. She was a member of Tift Avenue Baptist Church in Tifton. Ms. Newsome enjoyed her church family, spending time with family and friends, fishing, gardening and traveling.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, J.D. & Pat Newsome of Tifton; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary & Danny Jones of Waynesville, NC and Celia & Randall Waller of Fitzgerald; 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dwain & Polly Hogan of Irwinville and Don & Karen Hogan of Lineville, AL; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian & Jimmy Ross of Ocilla, Carolyn and James Roy Story of Sycamore and Patricia & Gene Barber of Nashville. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Cecil Maddox and four brothers, Perry, Larry, Pete and Billy Hogan.
