
Helen C. (Chapman) Pugh of Needham, a retired special needs teacher, died Monday May 12, 2008 at her home. She was 91.
Born in Philadelphia, PA she had been a resident of Needham for over 57 years. She graduated from Mt. Holyoke College in 1937. After raising her 4 children, she earned her MA from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1967. She worked for the Needham Public Schools as a special needs teacher from 1970 to 1985. After retirement she volunteered with the schools for many years. She was a longtime member of the First Parish Unitarian-Universalist church in Needham.
Wife of the late Thomas F. Pugh, she is survived by her children Charles C. Pugh of Oakland CA, Mary Pugh Clark of Montclair NJ, Eleanor “Abbi” Canney of Needham and Thomas C. Pugh of Needham, their spouses, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and a large and loving extended family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31st at the First Baptist Church, 858 Great Plain Ave, in Needham at 2 PM .
