George Alves, 82, of Acushnet died Tuesday May 13, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Albina (Medeiros) Alves and Hilda (Medeiros) Alves.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel and Emily (Caton) Alves, he lived in Fairhaven and New Bedford before moving to Acushnet in 1967.
He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church.
Mr. Alves was formerly employed by the Acushnet Company Golf Ball Division until his retirement.
He enjoyed collecting and refurbishing old radios. He liked making people laugh.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra M. Trundy and her husband Kevin of New Bern, NC, and Brenda J. Woodis and her husband Richard of Acushnet; two grandchildren, Noel L. Wheeler and Dana Furtado; three great-granchildren, Bradley, Christopher, and Nicholas Wheeler; and nieces and nephews.
He was the grandfather of the late Mindy Furtado, and brother of the late Manuel, Lawrence, John, Walter, and Henry Alves.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM at St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
