Obituary

JOHN G. FALVEY, 83, a Hingham resident for the past 47 years, died at his home on Sunday, April 27th, 2008 after a long illness. Born and raised in Floral Park, Long Island, NY, John served with the U.S. Army Air Force as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. Continuing in the Air Force Reserve, he was discharged in 1962 as a First Lieutenant. He attended Holy Cross College in Worcester on a football scholarship, graduating in 1950. He was employed with Swift & Co., working in Brooklyn, NY; Ogden, UT and Boston as a meat buyer and salesperson. Afterwards, John joined T.A. Spatola & Co. until his retirement in 1989. A softball and volleyball enthusiast, he was a member of the South Shore YMCA in Quincy and enjoyed summering at Davis Park on Fire Island, New York.

He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 58 years, Doris M. (Wicks) Falvey of Hingham; and was the father of, Francis X. of Orlando, FL, John G., Jr. of Center Moriches, NY, Timothy J. of Savanah, GA, Helen A. Hammond of Brockton, Jeanne M. of Hingham and Daniel S. of Vero Beach, FL. Grandfather of Kyle, James, Jenelle, Cullen, Sara, Ashley, Kailey and Benjamin. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Friday, May 16th at 9 AM from the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Paul's Church, 147 North St., Hingham Square at 10 AM.

Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – MDS RESEARCH, 1311 Mamoroneck Ave., Suite 310, White Plains, NY 10605.

Interment in St. Paul's Cemetery, Hingham.
