Obituary

KLIE, John W. age 82, passed away on May 1st, 2008 at Hackensack University Medical Center. Dear husband of Helga (nee Linkenheil ) with whom he shared 45 happy years and loving father of daughters Heidi Klie of Maspeth, NY and Kristen Klie of Hamden, Conn. Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, June 21, 1925, Jack attended local public schools, graduating from Dickinson High School. He was the son of Henry J. and Anna E. (nee Petersen) Klie. Upon graduation from high school he entered the Marine Corps and during WWII served in the Pacific and then China after the war, being discharged in May, 1946. After service he attended Mohawk College, Utica, NY, 1946-1948, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1950. At Penn, Jack was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He then began an association with his brother, Henry A. Klie, as Vice President of Henry Klie Inc., an insurance agency in Jersey City that was founded by their father in 1910. Brother Henry passed away in 1997. Jack was a retired member of the board of directors of the Hudson City Savings Bank. He also was a past president of the Rotary Club, Lincoln Association, Museum Association and Bayview-New York Bay Cemetery, all of Jersey City, and the University Club of Hudson County and Hudson County Association of Independent Insurance Agents. In addition, he served as Chapter Chairman of the Hudson County Chapter American Red Cross, 1969-1971. He was a member of the Oradell Reformed Church, American Legion Post #41, Secaucus-Hudson Masonic Lodge #72, Valley of Northern NJ., Scottish Rite and Oradell Senior Social Club. He is also survived by his brother, Robert E. Klie and wife Mary, Closter, NJ. and Hester Klie, the wife of deceased brother Henry, Golden, Colorado. Family and friends are invited to visit Monday, 3-5PM at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Rd., Oradell. A service will begin at 4PM. Interment Tuesday departing the funeral home at 10:30AM and proceeding to Bayview Cemetery, Jersey City.
