George L. Hansford
...Veteran of WW2 and Korean Wars; 78
TEWKSBURY - George L. Hansford, age 78, a Veteran of two wars, died Wednesday afternoon, April 23, at the Heritage Nursing Center in Lowell, after a long period of declining health. He was the husband of Joan P. (Sheehan) Hansford, with whom he had celebrated a 55th wedding anniversary this past November 22nd.
He was born in East Boston, on May 11, 1929, a son of the late Robert F. and Ann (O'Neil) Hansford. He was raised in Medford, and attended Medford High School.
He enlisted into the Army in the late stages of WWII. Upon discharge, he re-enlisted into the U.S. Air Force, and served during the Korean War.
He retired as electrician for the Payne Elevator Company. Later, he co-owned the Exxon Station on Main Street in Tewksbury.
He was a communicant of St. William's Church, a member of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club, a frequent visitor to the Tewksbury Senior Drop-In Center, and a former member of the Fr. Coppen's Council, Knights of Columbus, Council 4336 in Tewksbury.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, George L. Hansford of New Boston, NH, and Michael J. Hansford and his wife Denise (Petros) of Pepperell; five grandchildren, Jeremy Hansford of Woburn, Meghan Hansford of Woburn, Brad Hansford of Manchester, NH, Karen Hansford of FL, Linda Stalzer of AZ; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Chelsey, Kylie, Mellissa, and Andrue; a sister-in-law, Theresa "Terry" Hansford-Holt of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also brother of the late Francis Hansford, Herbert Hansford, and Barbara Boyd.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, Apr. 28, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial with Air Force Honors was in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Asson., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 or www.alz.org/ma will be appreciated.
