Norman N. Amaral, 81, of Westport, passed away on his birthday, April 22, 2008 at home after a courageous battle against cancer. He was the husband of Louise M. (Perry) Amaral, in June they would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.
One of 13 children, he was born in Fall River, son of the late Joao and Francelina (Cabral) Amaral, he had lived in Westport for the last 57 years. A veteran of WWII, he served his county in the United States Navy. He was the former owner/operator of Westport Seat Covers. Mr. Amaral was a Communicant of St. George Church, Westport. He was a member of the V.F.W. Ouellette Post 8502, Westport and a former member of the Knights of Columbus St. Isidor Council. An avid Red Sox fan, he enjoyed gardening, trips to Atlantic City and Foxwoods, but most of all he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren at his home.
Including his wife, he is survived by a son: Kenneth Amaral and his companion Jean LaPointe of Westport; 2 daughters: Patricia A. Deschenes and her husband Reginald of Westport and Linda M. Roussel and her husband Michael of Westport; a sister: Delia Gray of Sunrise, FL; 4 grandchildren: Tammy Novo and her husband Ken, Jeremy Roussel and his wife Ofelia, Kristy Roussel and her companion Jay Pequita and Nathaniel Amaral and his companion Ashley Pavao; 2 great grandchildren: Amanda Novo and Jayda Pequita; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, April 28, 2008 from the Potter Funeral Home at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church, Westport at 9:00 A.M.
Calling hours Sunday 5 - 8 P.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
