Maria (LoGiudice) Cassaro, of Somerville, died Monday evening in the company of her loving family at Sancta Maria Nursing Facility. She was 97.
Born and raised in Sicily, Maria was the daughter of the late Diego and Maria Angela (Liuzzi) LoGiudice. She came to the United States with her family in 1955. Living for brief time in East Boston the family finally settled in Somerville. Working hard to provide for her family in a new country, Maria put her talents to good use and worked as a seamstress as a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union. A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Maria loved the company of all of her family and many friends. She was a member of Somerville’s Senior Citizen Group.
She was the beloved wife of the late Calogero Cassaro.She was a devoted mother to Grace Cassaro of Medford and her late husband Louis, Maria Angela Milazzo and her husband Joe of Somerville, Salvatore Cassaro and his wife Jane of East Boston. She was a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was a dear and special aunt to Joanne DiCicco, her husband James of NY and is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Friday at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 179 Summer Street, Somerville, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with entombment at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum.
