Obituary

Daniel J. "D. J." Nobles, Jr., 86, of Tifton died Monday, April 21, 2008, at Tift Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2008, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton's First Baptist Church. Dr. W. Ches Smith, III, Dr. Wayne Roe and Rev. Paul Thomas will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Wilbur Webb, Wendell Ball, Dan Branch, Earl Branch, Teddy Sellers and Ron Lawhon will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Tifton Kiwanis Club, members of the American Legion, Dr. Morris Davis, Dr. Curtis Branch and Warren Marchant. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Nobles was born on September 8, 1921 and was the son of Daniel Joseph Nobles, Sr. and Mary Bass Nobles, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Adelaide Heath Nobles. He was retired from Nobles Insurance Company and H & R Block and was a member of Tifton's First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Tifton Kiwanis Club, the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary and was a United States Navy veteran in the communications field.

Mr. Nobles is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Larry Staley of Valdosta; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, June and Ed Harrell of Winter Haven, Florida, Helen and Roy Tucker of Blackshear, and Juanita Kinter of Winter Haven, Florida; two grandchildren, Joseph Scarboro and his wife, Sabrina, and Daniel Staley; and two great grandchildren, Zachary Scarboro and Haley Scarboro.
