Jacob Samuel “John” “Jack” Yellowitz, a longtime resident of Revere, entered into rest on April 16, 2008 in the Whidden Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was 91 years old & the beloved husband of the late Frances (Karp) Yellowitz who entered into rest in July, 2007.
Born in Chelsea, the son of the late Hyman & Fannie (Marder) Yellowitz, he was raised & educated in Revere where he graduated from Revere High School. Mr. Yellowitz enlisted in the United States Army on October 28, 1942 at Ft. Devens, MA. He served during WWII with the 3rd Tactical Control Group. Mr. Yellowitz was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, the Victory Medal, & the AAF Technician Badge with Radio Bar. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant on February 17, 1946 at the Separation Center at Fort Lewis, WA. Mr. Yellowitz was employed for many years as a sales manager for Liberty Electrical Supply Company in Cambridge. He was a member of the Moses Michael Hayes Lodge of Masons & enjoyed photography. Mr. Yellowitz will always be remembered for his devotion to family & friends. He had a kind heart, always a warm smile, & a keen sense of humor.
Mr. Yellowitz is survived by his devoted daughters, Linda Ungerleider & husband Stanley of Burlington & Dr. Janet Yellowitz of Baltimore, MD; his cherished grandchildren, Hal Ungerleider & Susan Fletcher; & his loving great-granddaughter, Magnolia Ungerleider. He was the brother of the late Annie Hookness & Ruth Patti.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Sudilkov Cemetery, 232 Fuller St. Everett. Rabbi Jeffrey Foust of Temple Beth Israel of Waltham will officiate. Memorial observance will be omitted due to the Pesach holiday. Donations in Mr. Yellowitz's memory may be made to the Alzheimers Assoc of MA, 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472.
