Mary (DiPaola) Vitello, known to many as “Nana” died Tuesday night at her Arlington home in the company of her loving family. She was 83.
Born and raised in east Boston she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Maria (DeChara) DiPaola. After 16 years in Medford, Mary settled with her family in Arlington, where she lived most of her life. Mary was a co-founder and incorporator of Tello’s Baby Clothing in 1952. She was active in the operation of the family business until her retirement. With her participation, the firm eventually grew into one of the more successful retailers of men’s and women’s fashions in Greater-Boston. In addition to being a successful business woman, Mary was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She loved to cook and entertain, was dedicated to her parish, loved music and singing, instilling that love in her family. Her summer home in Hyannisport was a welcoming place for family and friends.
She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Vitello, Jr. She was a devoted mother to Patricia Davis and her husband Bill of Medford, and the late Sandra M. Vitello. She was a loving grandmother to Mackenzie Davis of Medford, and William Davis of Somerville. She was the dear sister of Doris DiMaggio and her husband Al of Malden, Richard DiPaola of Yarmouthport, the late Jean Clements and Thelma Monaco.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Friday at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Eulalia Church, 50 Ridge Street, Winchester, at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family Thursday 6 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
