Obituary

Joseph F. Doherty 87 years of Brockton died Sunday April 13, 2008 at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Doherty was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Edward and Mary (Dumas) Doherty and remained a lifelong resident of the city. Joseph attended Brockton Schools but left to join the CCC to help support his family. With the outbreak of WW II he enlisted in the US Army and served in Europe with the 10th Armored Tiger Division where he was a tank commander.
Upon his military discharge Joe was a provisional firefighter with the City of Brockton and he worked for many years as warehouse manager at Verde Shoe in Brockton. He retired from the maintenance department at the BAT garage in Brockton.
Mr. Doherty was a founding member of the Xaverian Brothers High School Fathers Club, a member of the Bridgewater YMCA and the Transit Workers Union. He enjoyed baseball, especially the Red Sox and Brockton Rox, traveling to Ireland, bowling and listening to jazz and Irish music. He also enjoyed spending time with his Afternoon Coffee Club.
Mr. Doherty was the father of Edward Doherty and his wife Maryellen, Joseph “Jay” Doherty and his wife Barbara all of Brockton and the late Mark Doherty. He was the grandfather of Shawn Doherty and his wife Cindy of Albany, NY; Liana Doherty of Brockton; Melisa Doherty of Cambridge; Mark and Danielle Doherty of Bridgewater; Nicole Doherty of Springfield, VT and the late Jeffery Doherty. He was the brother of Agnes Rondeau of FL and the late Edward Doherty and Eileen Stepanski. He leaves his companion Nanette Coulstring of Carver and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Friday at 8 am. Funeral Mass in Christ The King Parish/ St. Colman Church 9am. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Brockton.
