Obituary

Verlin Johnson, age 89, passed away on April 13, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, North MS in Oxford, MS. He was born May 25, 1918 to William Hunter and Carrie Daniels Johnson at Old Dallas and served in the United States Army during World War II. He served as a deacon for Paris Baptist Church and was a member of the VFW. He was a farmer and worked for many years at Kellwood Plant in Oxford, MS.

The visitation will be held at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS on Monday, April 14, 2008 from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Paris Baptist Church in Paris, MS with Bro. Jimmy Sockwell and Bro. Rick Glidewell officiating. Committal will follow in the Paris Baptist Church Cemetery with William Roy Sullivan, Billy Wayne Sullivan, Wilton Trusty Martin, II, Anthony Bedoya, Ed Bedoya, and Robert Garcia serving as pall bearers.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lena Johnson of Bruce, MS; two daughters, Anita Johnson Martin (Danny) of Water Valley, MS and Reba Johnson Bedoya (Ed) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; one son, Wendell Johnson (Duyen) of Olive Branch, MS; three sisters, Melba Russell, Lillie Hanson and Ida Marie Zisk; one brother, Marlin Johnson; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Louise Robinson Johnson (September, 1963); three sisters, Wilma Sullivan, Margarette Potts, and Maxine Brown; and two brothers, Dr. Jimmy Johnson and Lloyd Johnson.
