Joseph Henry Erskine of Whigham died Friday, April 11, 2008, at Grady General Hospital in Cairo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Terrell Roberts will officiate with a private burial to be held at a later date. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 14, 2008, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Erskine was born on November 25, 1928 in Enigma and was the son of Howard Erskine, Jr. and Carrie Sego Erskine, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Jo Woodard; two brothers, Gene Erskine and Bernice Erskine; and two sisters, Faye Walker and Geneva Erskine Hobby. He was a self-employed construction worker and served in the 27th Calvary of the United States Army.
Mr. Erskine is survived by his wife, Barbara Allen Erskine of Whigham; two sons, Billy Felton Erskine of Omega and Joseph Allen Erskine of Cairo; one daughter, Galinda Tucker of Tifton; one sister, Myrna Allen of Vanceville; twelve grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
