Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Thomas S. Favaloro, 86 died peacefully Thursday, April 10, 2008 in the Golden living Center. He was the husband of the late Gertrude P. (Chaisson) Favaloro.
Born in Gloucester on May 8, 1921, he was the son of the late Vito and Accursia (Ciulla) Favaloro. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester. He was also a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was one of six children who served in the U.S. military during wartime.
Thomas began his fishing career aboard the family trawler, Victoria and was employed as a fisherman for 50 years in Gloucester and New Bedford. He also started wood carving as young boy and finally made it a full time hobby after retiring from fishing in the 1980’s. He is well known locally for his famous swordfish swords. Thomas carved all manner of birds, animals and fish. Included in his carvings are two models of full rigged vessels. One is a model of the famous Gloucester Grand Banks Schooner. The second is the greyhound of the seas, the great clipper ship, the Flying Cloud. It was all a labor of love for him.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rosann and Anthony Montagnino of Lantana, Fl., a grandson and his wife, Kevin and Robin Montagnino of Lantana, FL., a great grandson, Nathan T. Montagnino of Lantana. FL., two brothers, Frank Favalora of Gloucester, Leonard Favalora of Old Lyme, CT., 2 sisters, Antoinette Favalora of Tewksbury, Lillian Seville of Peabody, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by one son, Thomas D. Favaloro, four brothers, Serafino Favaloro, Anthony Favaloro, James Favaloro, and Michael Favaloro, three sisters, Julia Pallazola, Mary Hendrickson and Rose Favaloro.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday in the Holy Family Parish, St Ann Church, Pleasant St., Gloucester at 9:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held prior to Mass from 8-9 a.m. in the Pike–Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Holy Family Parish Building Fund, 60 Pleasant St., Gloucester, 01930. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
