Obituary

AUBURN-Raymond J. Turcotte, 85, of 11 Idlewood Drive died Thursday, February 20 in the St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 61 years, Phyllis D. (Spillane) Turcotte; four sons, Raymond Turcotte of Hubbardston, Robert K. Turcotte of Oxford, Kevin M. Turcotte of Muncie, IN and Steven D. Turcotte of Auburn; two daughters, Janet M. Paquette and Joyce A. Looney both of Auburn; four sisters, Anita Garland of Sun City, FL, Irene Collins and Julia Nardero both of Worcester and Claire Laporte of Leicester; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. His brothers, Russell and Francis Turcotte predeceased him.

He was born and raised in Worcester, the son of the late Julian and Sadie (Prunier) Turcotte and has lived here for 52 years. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School.

Prior to his retirement in 1980, Mr. Turcotte worked as a mason and a building and masonary superintendent for the F.W. Madigan Company, Worcester for many years. He was involved in many church and school building projects throughout the area. He was a member of the Bricklayers Union, Local 6, Worcester and in 1986 he earned life membership status. In 1977, Mr. Turcotte authored a bricklaying curriculum book for trade school students, a project sponsored by the Assoicated General Contractors of America.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Auburn and was active for many years in Auburn Little League baseball and youth hockey. He was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan. Along with his wife, Mr. Turcotte was honored several years ago by the Emerald Club of Worcester County for their dedicated association with the Mercy Centre in Worcester.

His funeral will be held on Monday, February 24 from the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., (www.brittonfuneralhomes.com) Auburn with a Mass at 11 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
