Obituary

JULIAN K. FREDIE, SR., of Braintree, formerly of Hingham and Deltona, FL, died on Saturday, April 5th, 2008 at the Braintree Landing Nursing Center. He was 97. Mr. Fredie was born and spent his early life in Charltston, SC where he graduated from the Avery Institute Normal School. He came to Boston in 1928 and attended Boston University. Mr. Fredie moved to Hingham in 1939 and was an active member of the community. He, and his two sons, Julian, Jr. and Edwin, were building contractors on the South Shore for many years, before he retired to Deltona, FL in 1985. Mr. Fredie was an accomplished musician, who sang with the Hingham Men's Chorus, the Handel & Haydn Society and was a long time choir director of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Cross in Hanover. He also played the trumpet and was associated at various times with the 377th Infantry Band in Boston, the Boston Civic Orchestra and several jazz bands. He was a founding member of the South Shore Citizen's Club and an active member of the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Hingham where he was a lay reader, sang with the choir and was a member of the Vestry. He recently moved from Florida to Braintree to be nearer his family.

He was the husband of the late Winona Mae (Pocher) Fredie, and father of Julian K. Fredie, Jr. and his wife Deanna of Braintree and Edwin P. Fredie and his wife Marcia of Lincoln, NH. Grandfather of Christine Kimberly Belcastro, Cynthia Irvin and Kenya, Michael, Christopher and Alexandra Fredie. Brother of the late Mamie Louise Reed, the late Emma Lucille Fredie, the late Leona Young and the late William Liles Fredie, Jr.
Also survived by 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services Friday, April 11th at 10 AM at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St., Hingham, MA 02043. Visiting hours will be held at the church on Thursday from 4-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory would be preferred to the Organ Fund of the Church of St. John the Evangelist. The interment will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
