Obituary

John J. Fay 87, formerly of Abington passed away Friday April 4th in the Brockton Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of 49 years to Jeanne M. (Gardner) Fay.

Born in Rockland and raised in North Abington he was the son of the late John and Laura (McGrath) Fay and a graduate of Abington High School class of 1939.

John was a Veteran of the US Army during World War II having served from 1942-1945.
He was a member of the 44th Combat Engineers and served overseas in Germany, England and France.

He worked as a machinist for American Sandpaper and retired in 1986. He was an avid reader and enjoyed boating and the ocean.

In addition to his wife of 49 years he is survived by his sister Doris Fay- Boyce of Rockland, his sister in law Dorothy Sime of Kingston, his niece Judy Sime of Kingston and his nephew Brian Sime of Pembroke. John was also the longtime friend of the MacAlpine family of NH and “Special Uncle “to Mary and Amanda Mastrangelo of Abington.

His funeral service will be held Tuesday April 8th at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Visiting hours will be held Monday April 7th from 4-7 PM. Donations in his name may be made to the Partners Home Care 281 Winter Street / Suite 240, Waltham, MA 02451-8713.
