Hudson, MA
Roger N. Fortin, 90, of Hudson, formerly of Brunswick, ME, died Sunday, March 30 at UMASS Memorial Healthcare in Worcester, MA.
He was born in Brunswick, ME on February 21, 1918, son of the late Joseph B. and Marie Anna (Cloutier) Fortin, he graduated from Brunswick H.S. in 1937 and was a gifted football and baseball player. While working as a meat cutter, he was offered a job at Verney Mills to play semi-pro baseball for Cabot Mfg.
He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 in Africa, France, Italy, Germany and England.
He married Frederica R. Hammond on June 10, 1946 in Framingham, MA and worked as a bus driver for the B&W bus lines and later as a Tour Guide for Grey Line Tours out of Boston, MA. Early on he worked as a mail carrier in Brunswick and then for Hodgeman Rubber of Framingham, MA, as well as delivering oil for Knight Fuel of Hudson. He was also a part time caretaker for a cemetery in Framingham.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frederica R. (Hammond) Fortin of Hudson; 2 daughters, Christine Yadlon of Winchendon, MA, Lisa Andrellos of Upton, MA; 5 sons, Denis Fortin of Bellingham, MA, Joseph Fortin of Damariscotta, ME, Mark Fortin of Hopkinton, MA, Matthew Fortin of Bellingham, MA, and Roger A. Fortin of Framingham, MA. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and his brother, Paul Fortin of Hawaii. He was predeceased by a sister, Georgette Muehlen and 3 brothers, Christian, Marcel and Roland Fortin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 3, at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St. Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, April 2 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home Inc. 50 Central St. Hudson
