Obituary

Sister Therese Martineau, formerly known as Sr. Cecile-Marie, 79, of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, Manchester, died, March 30, at Catholic Medical Center.

Sister Therese was born on February 17, 1929 in Manchester, NH, the daughter of the late Arthur and Cecile (Cote) Martineau. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in Hudson, NH on December 28, 1947. She made her First Profession August 15, 1950 and Final Profession August 15, 1955.

She was actively involved as a music teacher in the Elementary Schools of the Diocese of Manchester, NH and Providence, RI. She also taught in the private Academies of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in New Hampshire at PMA in Hudson and OLMA in Gorham.

Sr. Therese was assigned as a missionary at the Presentation of Mary Novitiate in the Philippine Islands for three years.

Upon her return to Manchester, she served as a Nurses’ Aide at Presentation of Mary in Hudson and at St Joseph Residence in Manchester.

She semi-retired with the St Bernard Community in Keene and later transferred to St Joseph residence in Manchester.

She received her Bachelor Degree in Music from Rivier College, Nashua.

Family members include three brothers: Rev. Albert Martineau, OMI of Lowell, MA; Gerard and Andre, both of Manchester; a sister, Claudette Martineau, White Sister of Africa, Holyoke, MA; sister-in-law Vivian Martineau, of Manchester. As well as a niece, aunts and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place in the Resurrection Chapel on Wednesday April 2, 2008. Burial was in Presentation of Mary Cemetery in Hudson, NH.
