Obituary

Chester F. Orban, 82, of Sandown, NH, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 in the Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. Mr. Orban was born in Hudson, PA on February 11, 1926, a son of the late Francis and Stella (Chozowitz) Orban. He was a resident of Sandown for the past 20 years, formerly living in Stoneham, MA. Mr. Orban was a graduate of Fitchburg State with a BA in Industrial Arts, and had also attended the NE School of Art. He was a WWII veteran of the US Navy and the Marines serving in the Pacific aboard the USS Cloves. Mr. Orban was employed by the Raytheon Corp. in Sudbury, MA retiring in 1988. During his retirement, he became a well-known artist, and a member of the Manchester Art Association where he was artist of the month eight times. Mr. Orban had also been an art instructor in Florida and Southern NH. In 1960, he was a recipient of the Massachusetts Humane Society Life Saving Medal for saving a girls life in Quincy, MA.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Orban of Sandown; three sons, Chester J. Orban of Fremont, NH, Daniel Orban, of Maine, and Ronald Orban of Weymouth, MA; one daughter, Geraldine Molloy of Brentwood, NH; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one sister, Josephine Grzybowski of Toms River, NJ.
Calling hours were held on Monday, March 31st from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday at 2:00pm in St. Anne Church, 26 Emerson Ave., Hampstead, NH, with cremation following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Manchester Art Assoc., PO Box 636, Manchester, NH 03105, the American Legion Post #9 in Derry, or the Veterans Adminstration Hospital, 781 Smyth Rd., Manchester, NH 03104.
