WORCESTER-Theofani Peter Iatrou, of Worcester, died Saturday, March 22nd in UMass-Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He celebrated his 98th birthday on Thursday. He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Georgia (Milionis) Iatrou, he also leaves two sisters in Greece, 21 nieces and nephews and several grandnieces and nephews in Greece, Canada, Germany and United States.
He was born in Tsamanta, Greece the son of Petros and Katerina (Karampina) Iatrou and came to Worcester from Greece in 1967. His wife, Georgia arrived the year before. Mr. Iatrou had been a metal worker in Greece for many years and later worked 15 years as a finisher at L. Hardy Knife Company in Worcester. He also served in the Greek Army during World War II. Mr. Iatrou was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral; its Seniors Club and a member and senior advisor to the St. George’s Hellenic Benefit Society of Tsamanatas.
The funeral is Wednesday, March 26th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, March 25th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
