Obituary

Gerald A. O’Neill, 77, died unexpectedly March 19, at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of Lorraine I. (Campbell) O’Neill. Born in Dorchester, he was a graduate of St. Mark’s School and St. John’s High School in Cambridge. Mr. O’Neill was a Veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. Mr. O’Neill was a resident of Stoughton for over 20 years. He worked for New England Telephone and NYNEX as a Central Office Repairman for over 40 years, retiring in 1989. He was an active member of St. Mark’s Parish in Dorchester for many years, as a member of the Men’s Club and Holy Name Society as well as being the Cub Scout Leader for over 15 years. Mr. O’Neill was a lector at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton for several years. He was a member of the Francis McKeon Post in Dorchester. Mr. O’Neill was also a poll worker for several years. In his free time, he enjoyed making Christmas Ornaments for his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Daniel J. O’Neill and his wife Mary of Stoughton, Mary E. Mosman and her husband Robert of Charlton, Nancy E. Gillespie and her boyfriend Richard Conroy of Stoughton, Christopher J. and his girlfriend Diane Post of Ashland and Richard J. O’Neill and his wife Jeanne of Stoughton. He was the brother of Alice McCluskey of Plymouth, Frances Jenkens of Canton and Claire Armstrong of Marshfield. He was the grandfather of Daniel, Patrick, Thomas, Michael, Ryan and Julianna O’Neill and James Gillespie. He was predeceased by his two sons Kevin M. O’Neill and James R. O’Neill and his siblings John, Joseph, Edward, Robert, James, William, Mary Mullen, Dorothy O’Connell, Helen Murphy and Teresa Davin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, March 24 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday 5-8 PM. Donations in Gerry’s memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
