David “Wrecker” Tavares, age 78 of Fall River. Widower of Rose (Pimental) Tavares & Son of the late Manuel & Helen Tavares. Passed away March 18, 2008. Born in Fall River, he resided in Swansea for several years before returning to Fall River in 2005. He was a member of the Thomas Chew Memorial Boys and Girls Club where he was an avid handball player. He was a retired construction worker for New England Power Co. & previously, he worked at Sagamore Mills.
He is survived by l daughter: Patricia Medina & l sister: Delores Raposa both of Fall River; 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren & several nieces & nephews & his longtime companion Florence Mayo of Swansea. He was brother of the late Edmund Tavares & Helen Berube.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St. Friday at 7:00 A.M. followed by The Liturgy of the Word in St. Michael Church at 8:00 A.M. Interment is in St. Patrick Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 6-8 PM.
