GLOUCESTER: Theodore von Rosenvinge III, 79, died March 16, 2008 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the husband of Hazel M. (Lowe) von Rosenvinge.
Born in Cambridge on January 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Theodore von Rosenvinge, Jr. and Mary (Worcester) von Rosenvinge. He grew up in Winchester and Annisquam.
In addition to a long-time association with New England Carbide Tool Company, Ted was active in the stage crew for the annual Winton Club productions to benefit Winchester Hospital, President of the Winchester Schussmeisters Ski Club, Rear Commodore of the Annisquam Yacht Club, Trustee of the Squam Rock Land Trust and Trustee of the Norwood Heights Trust, a Director of Big Brothers of Boston, and President of the Winchester Badminton Club. Favorite pursuits of his were ocean racing, skiing in the woods, clamming and gardening.
In retirement, Ted became an accomplished carver of shore birds and expanded his interest in land conservation.
In addition to his beloved wife of 57 years, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Theodore IV and Margo von Rosenvinge of Ridgefield, CT, Mark and Tina von Rosenvinge of Ossipee, NH, Wendy and Peter von Zirpolo of Danville, NH and Margot von Rosenvinge-Horn and Robert Horn of Bennington, NH; his grandchildren, Marta and Peter Granat, Laurel and Robin von Rosenvinge, Shannon, Amanda, Samantha and Michael von Zirpolo, Sarah and Elizabeth Horn; his great-grandson, Gordon Theodore Granat. He also leaves two brothers, William von Rosenvinge of Ipswich,MA and James von Rosenvinge of Francestown, NH. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry von Rosenvinge.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 25th at 11 a.m. at the Annisquam Village Church, 820 Washington St., Gloucester. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations in his memory may be made to the Cape Ann Food Pantry, 28 Rear Emerson Avenue, Gloucester, MA 01930 or to a charity of one’s choice
